Since the 1920’s, the rise and popularity of Komiks in the Philippines has been sporadic, but one thing that remained was its appeal to children and adults alike. Over the years, different genres have been introduced and recently Indie Komiks started a new following. Although the younger generation is not familiar with authentic Filipino Comics, the more popular styles like Western and, of course, Manga, have continuously provided entertainment to our youth.
Being great storytellers, we Filipinos have the innate ability to create Comics. It is a creative way to express our feelings and an engaging way to communicate our message. From newspaper editorials to full color magazines and digital comic types, the art of comics is definitely here to stay.
If you are a comic fanatic and would like to make your comics ready for self-publishing, there is a workshop that can help you do just that. First Academy is offering an Indie Komiks Making Workshop. The aim of the workshop is to enable students to learn various skills in story development, thumbnailing, pacing, rhythm, Grid Layouts, Lettering, Balloon Placements, Sound Effects, Cover pages, Publishing your comics and a lot more!
This workshop is open to all students in grade and high school, college even adults. As long as you are passionate about making comics you are welcome.
At the end of the workshop, the student with the best work will get the chance to join his/her Instructor and get a chance to showcase his/her own comics at the Komikon convention in November 2015.
